What You Should Look For in a Realtor

Purchasing a home is a huge decision.  It may be the largest investment you ever make.  Some people underestimate the importance of finding a good realtor to help you with the purchase of a new home.  There are specific things you should look for when searching for the right person to represent you.

Your real estate agent should be an experienced real estate investor.  Whether you are buying a home for yourself or an investment property it is important your agent has had experience purchasing homes for himself.  Your realtor is not only there to complete your transaction but to offer advice and empathy as well.

It is important to find a realtor that has a strong web presence.  If you search the web for an agent you are interested in and find little or no information on them that is a bad sign.  By having a strong web presence you can tell that an agent is working hard to grow their business.  You can also find important information about them to help you make a more informed decision.

A realtor that appears too busy is one to stay away from.  If they can’t return phone calls and emails in a timely manner that is a sign they are just too busy.  You run the risk of a longer closing if your agent’s “plate” is too full.  The purchase of a home is too important to work with someone who is rushed and trying to sell more homes than they have time for.

If you get the feeling an agent is being too pushy find someone else.  They should give advice but not try to convince you of something you don’t want.  If your agent is taking his time with you and pointing out potential problems in homes you are interested in that is good.  This means he is trying to help you make the right choice and not just trying to get a quick sale.

Keep all these helpful tips in mind when searching for that perfect realtor.  It could mean the difference between a smooth and easy transaction or a bumpy and difficult one.
